About

Chinchilla's Big Melon sprawls magnificently across 9 metres wide and 3 metres high, weighing a whopping 4 tonnes of vibrant red fibreglass! Since its installation in 2018, this colossal watermelon has stood guard along the Warrego Highway, celebrating Chinchilla's legitimate title as the 'Melon Capital of Australia'--producing an impressive 25% of the nation's entire melon crop. This Queensland Big Thing is a must-see for road trippers heading west toward the outback, offering the perfect photo opportunity and a taste of regional pride. The sculpture has become an iconic landmark for travellers exploring Queensland's agricultural heritage, representing the rich volcanic soils and favourable climate that make the region perfect for growing premium melons. The Big Melon also celebrates the community's annual Melon Festival, a quirky celebration complete with melon-themed activities that draw visitors from across Australia. Sweet, massive, and impossible to miss, this Big Thing embodies everything that makes Australian roadside attractions so beloved.
